Creating a Video

Video creation and editing is a tool that I’ve been practicing for the past few years and with todays technology will only make the process easier and more user friendly. I believe it can be a strong motivational tool for students . It’s also great to showcase clear examples and set expectations for lessons. The only drawback is the time it involves in putting it together, but as long as you can keep the number of files down to a minimum and get to the point. Be mindful of the ratio of video clips and editing time to complete the project.

Detail Learning Experience: The learning experience I hope to achieve for my students is to use video to reinforce lessons by showing them how to implement new skills and ideas. It will also be helpful to showcase the end product by displaying student growth over time.
Workflow Ideas: ONE – Show students video samples of the end product. TWO – Give students two or three video formats and organization tools. THREE – Students will decide how to organize layout as well as the different scenes. (ie: Students will put together a step by step process of how to design an organized game for class)
Brainstorming: What are the goals for your video? How will you reach your audience? How much time will it take to complete this project?
Storyboarding (Cronological Timeline): How will you show the process of growth through video? Students will organize scenes in cronological order to show start to finish product.
Shotlist: ONE: Introduction to activity or game. TWO: Rules and procedures. THREE: Safety concerns
Classroom Setup: This will be a group activity where students will be given video recording equipment. Upon completion of video recording by the groups the teacher will take the video clips and edit videos as an end product. Students will complete a shotlist and storyboard to go along with their video clips.

NOTE: I was able to showcase my video by burning a DVD. I think this would be great to keep to show a history of events and store either on DVD’s or online.

PE Universe (Multimedia in the Gym)

PE Universe, a space for physical educators. It is free to join and it’s a collaborative environment for instructors to share their lesson ideas. You can upload video, blog, and view discussions. It gives you a 100mb of space for video. There are also some opportunities to earn money through grants as well. Overall it’s a great resource to go to and see others using multimedia in the classroom.

I think voicethread is a great tool. I think its great if you’re willing to use it frequently and are willing to put the time into it. I’m not sure if i’m willing to put too much time into it. I think it can be used informally in order to get students interested and go from there. Attached is a short clip of how to make a snow angel.

1. Every student has the right to protect themselves by:

Not providing their last names, school names or addresses.
Not linking to their own personal online blogs or websites.

2. Every student has the right to express themselves by using non-offensive language towards others or groups or entities.

Use Non-offensive language.
Use academic language.
Use factual and accurate information.

3. Every student has the right to proofread and spell check in order to make errors in grammar, spelling and your use of words.

4. Every student has the right to treat others with respect towards someone else in your blog, whether it’s a person, an organization, or just a general idea.

5. Every student has the right to get permission from others before they are allowed to write about them. They should also remember to not include their last names in order to protect them.

Grant Writing

I’ve done some research on grants that are available out there for Health & Fitness, and have found it to be a very long and enduring process. I believe its a great skill to acquire, but at the same time i feel intimidated by process. My comfort level is low and only time will tell when i’ll be ready to take this on. In the meantime i will be looking for workshops or trainings for grant writing further down the road when the time is right.

My goal is to help at least one collegue to start up their own wordpress account in order to help them in the classroom. I’ve also been managing our department wordpress account in hopes to help increase communication for parents, students and teachers. The challenge will be getting the time for both me and my collegue to sit down and work on it. To be successful i need to lay out a clear and simple outline that will make the process quick and easy.

Students will record daily exercises into a lifting log. These lifting logs will be used to produce a full body workout plan as a culminating project. Students will work in groups in order to come up with a unique and interesting workout that will be video taped as a final.
